Custom EVA and foam inserts · cut and mill

CNC Cutting Machines for Custom Foam Packaging Inserts

A packaging insert cutting machine uses an oscillating knife and router to cut the outside profile and mill the internal cavity of EVA, EPE, PU and sponge inserts. It makes short-run protective packaging practical without a steel die, while keeping the foam face clean and the cavity aligned to the product.

  • Cut and mill in one job
  • No tooling for new designs
  • Short-run and custom-fit packaging

The production problem

Custom inserts are a design business, not a die inventory.

A protective packaging supplier wants to move from commodity foam to branded, custom-fit inserts. Each new tool, instrument or electronic product needs a different cavity and outside profile.

A die is difficult to justify for a first order, a sample or a product that may change next quarter. Manual cutting makes cavity depth and edge quality inconsistent, and separate cutting and routing steps add handling.

A CNC insert cutter keeps the part on one table. The knife cuts the outside shape, the router mills the pocket and the vacuum holds the foam without crushing the cell structure.

How the machine solves it

From drawing to finished part, without a die

Three decisions determine whether the process is reliable: tooling, hold-down and the workflow around the table.

01

Profile and pocket from one file

The outside shape and internal cavity are programmed together. The part is not moved between a knife station and a router station.

02

Digital tooling for new designs

A new product layout is a new CAD file. There is no die to order, no minimum quantity and no tooling storage for every SKU.

03

Clean foam face

A sharp knife and controlled feed leave an open, vertical cut face. The router removes the cavity without compressing the surrounding foam.

Test before deposit

Send material; receive cut parts, parameters and a priced configuration.

What the test includes

Send three pieces. Get the cut on video.

Send three A4-sized pieces of the actual material and one drawing in DXF, AI or PDF. We cut at production speed and record the tool, frequency, feed, vacuum zoning and number of passes.

You receive the cut parts by courier, a parameter sheet, a tool recommendation and one priced configuration. No deposit is required to see the test.

Decision support

Questions buyers ask

Direct answers to the questions that usually arrive before a machine specification is approved.

Can the machine cut the outside and mill the inside?

Yes. The SL1625FM combines an oscillating knife with a high-speed milling tool for insert profiles and cavities.

What foam density can it handle?

The configuration depends on density, hardness, thickness and tooling. Send the exact foam grade and a sample; a machine that works on soft EPE is not automatically right for dense EVA.

Do I need a die for each new insert?

No. The cutting file is the tool. New geometry can be cut without a steel die, which is the main advantage for prototypes and short runs.

Can it cut small quantities?

Yes. A single sample or small batch is a good use case because there is no die setup cost.

Next step

Send the product outline and foam sample. We will cut and mill a complete insert.

Include the material, thickness, drawing and output. An engineer will reply within 48 hours, Monday to Saturday, GMT+8.
